Whats the difference between a Gibson Les Paul Vintage Mahogany and a Gibson Les Paul Standard guitar?

Hi DJ

I own a 2008 LP Standard and , although no comparison to my old 1969 Les Paul Gold Top, this one is so light and the neck is thicker on the bass side, so it fits the hand better than previous models.
The neck is slightly fatter so YES, the sustain on this guitar is the longest compared to any other model. Very versatile guitar.
Solid build quality, tone control are not that great since they only response from 1 to 3 and from 3 to 10, no difference LOL. All-in-all, whether you play blues or heavy metal, this guitar is worth every dollar.

The Les Paul vintage is almost a copy of my old 1953 Les Paul Special red-cherry except for the pickups and single cutaway and minie is flat not arched.

The only noticable difference between this guitar and the Standard, is the pickups, and no binding and the finish is satin like. This guitar really has the 50-60′s sound like my old Les Paul. It has a long enduring sustain on it, so you can hold notes longer. With the Burstbucker pickups, that eas expected. The action is lower than the Standard and buzz-free or almost.
This guitar fits any style of classic to modern and even punk.
What I don’t like is the soft wood which is easy to dent if you don’t watch it.

But, to be honest, the Standard over-all, is a better quality-finished guitar and the sustain is much much much better.

Good Luck :)
