Has anyone heard of a Chet Atkins Fame guitar?
My grandmother recently found an old guitar her house, she said it was made by Gibson for Chet Atkins. on the head stock it just reads FAME. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Chet’s half brother James (Jim) was vice president of FAME and Chet was Chairman of the Board. They introduced an instructional program that included tapes, videos and instructional booklets. They eventually added guitars in 1972 that they endorsed for use with the instructional program. The program was initiated as a learning aide to supply to schools which FAME would supply audio consoles free of charge to learning institutions. It’s believed the guitars made for the program were produced in Japan but I haven’t been able to verify that. There were three guitars made specifically for the educational program according to this link provided which advertised the program
