Not only is the 2210 Kendrick the best sound, best look and feel better built Fender amp I've run through it also includes two predominant trends in musical equipment: a yearning for the loss of quality attributed to anything vintage, and appreciation for small production runs, made crafts hand.
Kendrick is a "boutique" based in Pflugerville, Texas, who is building amplifiers sleep from raw materials … and if the parties correct are not available (for example, output transformers super-efficient and stylish black frame Jenson speakers), only tools and make'em themselves. A glance tells you this beautiful amp is a labor of love-old tweed cover emits a golden glow, light brown cloth grille is pure fifties, steel leather reinforced handle is hand-stitched and triple chrome-plated on the control panel is one inch thick. Within its massive pine, cabinet, dovetail jointed find Hand welded wire fabric cover, a chassis 16 gauge steel and sweet sounding Sovtek tubes located in ceramic sockets. Labor, of course, is superb.
Instead of trying to meet the needs of each gutiarist of all at once, concentrates on getting 2210 just right one thing: a classic sound, Era tweed. There are contemporary ornaments, caps and resistors have lower values of tolerance of originally used by Fender and therefore will last longer, not no protection of the spike and the transient suppression of power to prolong the life of the tube, a circuit for reducing hum and some other modern mods, nothing else violates the First Directive.
The electronics are based on the famous 40-watt, Western Electric / Fender 59 Bassman circuit and is in a Fender "Super" size, 2A-10 back open cabinet. The tube configuration is a perfect balance of power and tone: 5881 Double feeding tubes (the military version 6L6) a trio of 7025, a tube rectifier (GZ34) and a single 12AY7, which has less gain but more current 12AX7 based, producing a rich, "tube-y-er" sound.
technoids Sharp eyes have discovered something very Bassman-like tube on the list: an extra 7025. Discreetly parked in the main amplifier chassis is a mini-frame with an effects loop send and return, the feedback loop gain / control third gain stage and the slide selector switch, foot switch and more preamp output jacks. Toggle switch (or pedal included) assigns this additional tube for any of the return circuits of the loop or adds gain stage three mega-distortion.
From speakers and output transformers half to determine the sound of any amplifier. Kendrick has given special attention to these components, too. As noted above, recreating the classic sounds often requires traditional parties, so that makes replicas Kendrick Improved Jensen Alnico 5 speaker model P-10R. As expected, these black beauties sound amazing, singing playing maximum and minimum United Nations-muddy effortlessly.
But even those who speak much and amplifier circuit produces a sound choice sucky if linked together with an output transformer anemia. Once again, Kendrick existing components are unacceptable, so the wind hand them one at a time. The transformer 2210 is the key to their awesome sound. The 2210 is big, fat, fat … a total surprise, as this small amp is expected to thin sound.
Other benefits related to the transformer is to have only two 8 ohm speakers instead of the traditional, 2-ohm, 4 bis-10 Bassman configuration-hence the amplifier can work twice as hard speakers. The Credit goes to New Wave guitar god Tom Verlaine (Television), which first asked Kendrick to become a 2a-10, as he was making a lot of back and forth between recording sessions in New York and needed a taxi amplifier use. The Kendrick Road 2210 was tested and exceeded all expectations.
