Precision or jazz bass for beginner?

My 14 year old daughter wants a bass. Is one better than the other for beginners, as far as ease in learning? We’ve looked on Musiciansfriend.com and I’m pretty sure we’ll go with a Squier by Fender. Just have to figure out P or J now. I’m really not sure at all what the difference is.
Okay, thanks! I can see that now when I compare them. I still wonder if one is better for a beginner than the other.

Simple answer. Take her to a music shop and let her try them both out, preferably through the amp that you going to buy.Which does she feel most comfortable with? Is one heavier than the other? Can she reach the frets more easily on one than the other? Which one does she prefer the sound of? Is the particular model set up correctly? (Ask advice from a friend who knows, if possible) If not, listen for rattles/buzzes on strings. Play the strings open and at the 12th fret. Are the notes an octave apart? Lastly does she like the look of it?
