I’m thinking about buying an electric guitar along with my current acoustic and taking lessons?

I have a Seagull Acoustic Guitar that I got last christmas and I’m decently good at it. I’m going to be taking lessons at a local place but my parents wanted to know what I wanted for Christmas and I’d like to have an electric. Oddly enough, I play mostly tabs and electric stuff on my acoustic anways.

I understand that I have to choose a guitar based on the sound that I want. I’m into classic rock and jam band stuff (such as Boston, Pink Floyd, Moe, etc). I like the Gibson Les Paul but I think that might be too expensive. I doubt my parents are going to spend anything more than $500. Should I look into getting a used Gibson Les Paul or Gibson SG? Or perhaps a basic, but new Fender Strat? I’ve been told that the Epiphone Les Pauls aren’t as nice and if I go get a new guitar, I should get a Strat.

So should I get a new or a used, and which model?

get wat ever makes you happy. I have a fender quier standart strat. I’m about to get Ibanez RG350EX. Just make sure get or have some really good amps that are crisp and clear. Also go to one of those guitar stores
