im a beginner and i was thinking about getting a guitar

Epiphone will be a little better, I would think. They have more experience making “cheap” instruments.
Plus, I’d listen to your friend. Plus, I’d trust Guitar Center before I’d trust Best Buy for a guitar.
And ultimately, it is your first cheap guitar – it’s not meant to last you the rest of your life. Hopefully, after a year, if you’re still playing, you’ll upgrade.
And remember, the most important thing is practice.
