Is it possible for John McCain to choose another VP?

That interview Sarah Palin had with Charles Gibson was frightening! People do need to seriously consider the fact that she would become the President if something happened to McCain. I actually feel sorry for McCain supporters.

No one has answered your actual question yet, so I’ll take a shot. Yes, he could choose another candidate if he wanted to. It actually happened in 1972, when Democratic VP candidate Thomas Eagleton was dropped from the ticket partway through the campaign, and replaced by Sargent Shriver.

However, before such a move would ever be considered, there would have to be some sort of huge public outcry about the candidate, to the point where her presence would become a liability. (Such as if something absolutely outrageous were learned about her.) I’m not a McCain fan, but honestly, dropping her from the ticket at this point is probably the last thing on his mind. A lot of people seem to like her.

So to answer: Yes, he theoretically could. But no, he really won’t.
