What distortion pedals, amps, gear, etc. would you recommend to get a sound like vai, malmsteen etc.?

I am a classical guitarist, primarily, but I want to get into a lot more electric guitar playing. I am having trouble getting the right distortion sound. Clean settings don’t have enough punch to them, but the second I turn on all the pedals, it sounds like a grunge mess. Help! What gear, pedals, etc. do I need so that it doesn’t sound horrible. Do I need some kind of effects processor or something? I’m going to list what gear I’ve got. An example of a player who seems to have a nice, liquid tone that I like would be Steve Vai. Also, Malmsteen and Petrucci . What gear do they use? …And please don’t write the answer “practice” or “go look online” ;) This is not about my playing…this is a problem with the settings/equipment. I want to hear what gear other players on here like to use, and what they have had success with.
I currently have: Jackson RR1 Select Series, Gibson SG Supreme , Marshall JCM2000DSL, Boss Metal Zone, Digital Delay, & Enhancer pedals. Any ideas? Please help.

most artist recomend a certin brand in the liner notes or the brand they used but i personally love the grunge pedal but if i wanna go harder i use the death metal
