gibson sg standard and special
What is your opinion on gibson sg special compared to the standard?

They are basically the same guitar with some subtle differences. The standard has a slightly better pickup combination, has neck binding, and comes with a hardshell case rather than a gig bag. But, the standard new also costs approximately $450 more.

While I have the standard (because I got a good deal on it), I think I would go with the special. It is probably a slightly better bang for the buck.

However, when you are paying over $1,000 for a guitar new, it better have a lot of bells and whistles. If you are dead set on getting a Gibson SG, I’d try to get one used and save some $. I like my SG, but at that price, there are better guitars out there IMHO.

Edit: I would look at Schecter or Ibanez if you want a decent humbucker guitar. Both are very good and are a lot less expensive. However, neither has the cachet of a Gibson.

Good luck and enjoy.
