There is a $500 gibson sg faded used for sale. how could i upgrade it to be nice and clean?

or should I just get an acoustic guitar…

been playin 5 years

Hi Ryan

The SG Gibson is not bad for the price. As far as the “nice and clean” effect, that is YOU that decides that. If you play sloppy, then it won’t sound nice and clean even on a $5,000 gitar and vice-versa.

The basics of guitar playing is to play clean and each note has to sound good , irrelevant of teh price of the gitar. The instrument will only sound as good as you can play it.

Expensive guitar have a better tone and better action, easier to play which can only be appreciated once you have learnt how to play well. Especially if you play on a guitar with a so-so action and tone, it is nornal that a low-action guitar comes with a price.

edit….as Russell pointed out, to get a clean sound out of a Marshall or whatever amp, if you put the Master Volume down to 2 or 3 and you crank the Gain to 5-6-7-8, the higher the gain , the more distortion.
Vice -versa for a clean sound. If you put the Master volume at 10, then obviously, the gain will be at 2 or 3 which will result in a super clean sound because you are not over-driving the pre-amp.
