How do you do a sunburst guitar finish?

I am building a Gibson Les Paul Standard model guitar and would like to do a sunburst finish. Has anyone ever done one and how hard is it to do?

Spray your main body color first. then spray your border color by spraying past the guitars body and just let the overspray catch the guitar. Spray far past the body on the first few passes and gradually move closer and you will get a feel for where the paint is going to land. I’ve done a blue burst and a silver burst using this method and both came out excellent. I suggest practicing on a piece of scrap wood first.
