changing guitar pickups?
im thinking about getting a gibson les paul faded double cutaway :

and i was planning to switch out the pickups later one so:
a.) can i use any type of pickups, or am i limited by the guitar?
b.)can i use two different brands of pickups e.x. a seymour duncan and a gibson pick up?
c.)if i am limited by the guitar, any suggestions on a different guitar thats about the same price
thanks
A) naw, you can use any type of pickup, but sticking a single coil (I.E. Strat pickup) into a gibson would LOOK really ugly, and you’d need to chop out some switch holes.
B) sure! A lot of people do that. Be aware…active pickups (EMGs for the most part) need battery holes drilled.
C) If you’re planning on doing a lot of pickup investigation, I would suggest getting a Strat. Stratocasters have a fairly large hole behind the pickguard, as the pickups aren’t screwed into the body, but mounted on the pickguard itself. This makes it much easier to jam a humbucker or two into a Strat….get a new pickguard and cut away. I would also NOT BUY A NICE GUITAR. Find something for 200 or less…way less. I’m installing a prewired “EMG DG 20esque” pickup set from Dragonfire pickups into my 10.00 strat knockoff, and frankly, I could care how many holes I drill in the thing.
Follow my links, spend 150.00, and do all the experimenting you want with a beater axe.
