Gibson J-45 Special Ebony Guitar. What kind of wood?
I have a Gibson J-45 Special Ebony Guitar and I am trying to find out what kind of wood was used to make it. On Wikipedia it says that J-45 Gibson guitars were made with spruce for the top and mahogany for the back on sides but would that be conclusive for all guitars made?
As far as I can tell it has a spruce top and mahogany back and sides. Puzzlingly, it also has a rosewood fretboard so apparently for this guitar “ebony” refers only to the black finish with the white pickguard.
I found the specs for it here:
