What is a good archtop guitar around US$500?

I want to buy an archtop guitar…kinda like gibson ES-175..

Oh yeah, one more question, can I use an archtop guitar to play Rock or Heavy metal Songs?

please tell me if you know.

The first answer was correct. I would probably try to find an older Ibanez, the Japanese made were the best. The ES-175 will feedback not in the cool controlled way, when you play loud enough to play with a rock drummer. I had a 1962 Gibson Super 400 for years, and finally sold it because I got tired of fighting with it. The 335 style might be better for getting a sweet jazz tone and still being able to play loud, but it has limitations there as well. The 175 is great for reasonable volume levels, if you have a sensitive drummer for instance. If you play clubs with a good sound guy, keep the stage level for the band low, and let him use the house system for volume. Ibanez has a real cheap 335 copy geared for rockers, but you probably get what you pay for. I would consider buying used, you usually get more guitar for your money that way. (I found a guy in the paper that sold me a ’74 Gibson SG, for $400!!! He didn’t know what he had and it was dirty and bad looking, it cleaned up beautiful) Sometimes you get lucky.
