Buying bass guitars?

I’m going to buy my first bass soon, I’ve been playing guitar for a year or so but people tell me to play bass instead. What should I look for in a bass, and what basses would you suggest? please, don’t bother mentioning epiphone, gibson, esp, or schecter, I’m firm set against them.

depends what you gonna spend. my bass i love it is the best, its a fender deluxe active jazz bass it was about 680 dollars, but fender jazz are the best basses, also jackson kick ass too, but try a few out, see what you like
