gibson epiphone acoustic guitar

General opinions on GIBSON J-160E?
If I get a Gibson j-160e, im wondering what people, who actually know something about instruments opinions will be?
will they be impressed whatsoever, or will they think its just run of the mill?
From what I know, im thinking that its pretty well known, and might get some attention.
basically im wondering, what the status of the guitar is in general.
im not trying to look cool, im doing the opposite, im trying to make sure I wont look cheesy…
thanks.
***Also I’m aware that Gibson tookover Epiphone, but why is it that on the Gibson website, the acoustic guitars are about $3,000-$5,000…
and then when i went to the music store to look at them…they were only Epiphones (the same models) and only cost $500-$600???

You should buy a guitar because you like it and because it fills a need, not on the basis of what others might think about it (and you). The Gibby J-160E was a classic long before John Lennon popularized it.

Gibsons are hand crafted in Bozeman, Montana by skilled artisans and Epiphones are made by factory workers in China. The USA Gibsons have better wood and finishes as well. Gibson owns the Epiphone name and as you saw there are many equivalent models but that doesn't mean the the Epis are as good. A good music store, even one like Guitar Center, carries Gibsons in addition to Epiphones.
I happen to not like Gibson acoustics and I think there are far better acoustic electrics on the market for less, such as the Taylor 414ce. The J-160E has those knobs on the top that turn me off, plus I'm not a big fan of dreadnoughts, but if that's the one you like the best after you play it then get it. Good luck.
