High Quality Low Brand Guitar, Or Low Quality High Brand Guitar?

I know.. a bit confusing, but I’m deciding on an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Silverburst guitar with Humbucker pickups ($749 (and yeah, I know.. Epiphone’s not exactly “Low Brand”.. but just go with it)) or a Gibson SG Classic (Heritage Cherry finish) with P-90 pickups ($899). I just want to know what the pros and cons of each buy would be. I’m new to guitars and don’t really know what to look for. Thanks for the help!

Epiphone Les Paul Custom
$150 cheaper. Can go to a good set of pickups
Still good quality.
High end epiphone, should be good quality.

Gibson SG
Better wood quality
Better Pickups
More pretty things. (doesnt really affect tone. Like bindings, inlays, etc.)
“Gibson Quality”

However, P90s have a different routing than regular humbuckers, So beware if you ever want to upgrade.
I really don’t see a difference, but Gibson fans will always say Gibson has better quality. (even though seriously. Gibson’s QC has gone down the toilet in recent years especially in the low end.. And Epiphone has kept improving.)

And if you are just starting. Why start out so high? Try going to a lower brand first. When most people start out, they wont be able to really tell a difference in tone of a guitar. Just playability. Try both and see which feels better in your hands. Because at the end of the day, Its you who plays the guitar. Not us.
