gibson acoustic guitar reviews
how are ibanez acoustic guitars?

Im looking for a decent and quality type acoutic guitar (around 200-500$) and I know Ibanez has really good reviews in terms for sound and quality but from what ive heard thats for electric only. Ive never heard talk of ibanez acoustics so is there a problem with them? Would oyu recommen me any other brands besides yamaha, gibson, taylor, and martin? and a sepcific type i can research for?

thanks in advance

Russell E is probably going to kill me for this but just so you get the point, it all comes down to a matter of opinion and circumstance. For instance, I can’t stand ANY Ibanez guitar and have never found a single one I would consider purchasing. I play all types of guitars myself, and have tried all types of Ibanez guitars. I just don’t like them. Every acoustic I tried sounded flat — not pitchwise — but tonewise — just no brilliance, richness, etc. whatsoever. I feel exactly the same way about Washburn guitars.

At my local music store, I found a Jasmine (Takamine) that was wonderful. The action was low, the intonation perfect and it felt good in my arms. I played three of the same model and all were consistent in quality. If I had to mention another brand name, it would most likely be Epiphone (and I know Russ would agree with me on that!)

As far as price range goes, I think you should consider yet another option.

Go shop every guitar store you know that offers used equipment. If you spend that 200-500 bucks on a used guitar, you will not only get a better quality instrument, but the options are limitless. Play as many as you can get your hands on and pay absolutely no attention to the brand name. You want a guitar that suits you… that fits your hands and overall body, one that you find attractive and certainly one that has no major faults.

Even as a Taylor 812c (with custom pickup/electronics) is my main performance guitar, the majority of my other guitars cost about $200. I learned how to adjust the action to my own specifications and equipped all of them with the very best strings, which in my opinion are made by Thomastik-Infeld. They are very expensive as they’re imported from Austria, but they last longer than any other premium string I’ve ever used.

Just a tale from the other side…

@m.kimes: Every guitar you listed was made in a factory. Here’s the scoop behind Taylor’s actual builds:

“What are the differences between Taylor guitars and guitars that are hand-made by individual luthiers?

Taylor guitars are “hand-made production” guitars. That sounds like an oxymoron, but it’s true. We manufacture relatively large numbers of guitars with the aid of state-of-the-art tools and technology that can cut and shape wood to tolerances of two-thousandths of an inch, but much of the actual guitar building is done by hand. We use computer design programs and computer-controlled milling machines to perform the most time-consuming, laborious processing of the raw wood into various guitar components with much greater speed, efficiency, accuracy, and consistency than is possible with hand tools. However, all Taylor guitars are hand-made from these components by trained guitar craftsmen who use both traditional and Taylor-devised techniques. Qualitatively, in terms of tone, playability, construction, and aesthetic beauty, Taylor guitars are every bit as good, if not better than, guitars made one-at-a-time by luthiers – we just make more of them, and with more reliable consistency.”
