Selecting Guitar Pickups
My uncle lent (indirectly gave) me his nineteen-forgotten Fender Strat. It’s still stock, but I’m toying with the idea of replacing the pickups.
What should I go for? I’m stuck between the Fender Texas Special and the Fender Lace-Sensors(and I’m aware there are different colors with the LS). I’m looking for a John Mayer, SRV tone, but am hoping that it can take being distorted without sounding bad (not good bad, by the way) as in some alternative songs.
Remember that SRVgot his tone through heavier strings and using an Ibanez Tube Screamer. Lace Sensors will give you a good working tone, and you can tweak it to suit your needs. With the Specials, you’re stuck with what you’ve got.
