Does the guitar strap knob break of the wood inside the guitar causing it to loosen?

when i bought a new guitar the leather strap that came with it was too hard and so i forced the strap on the knob and when i touched the knob it moved slightly and loosened. i was thinking maybe the screw chipped of the wood inside could this be a possiblity? my guitar is a fender american standard telecaster

if its loose pull the screw out put a piece of toothpick in the hole and put it back together. the toothpick piece will fill the hole making it like new again
