fender stratocaster serial number
how can I tell if my fender stratocaster is authentic? What if it has no serial number?
I have just bought this guitar on ebay, and am worried that it might not be a real 1993 special edition, it has a pearl pick guard and gold hardware, I haven’t played a guitar since I was a boy and don’t really no much about strats, except it was always my dad’s favourite, and I would be chuffed to have picked up an authentic one. Please help!
Fender puts the SN in different places. The obvious is on the front on the head stock under the logo. Another place to check on the back of the guitar where the neck bolts to the body. There is a plate there that might have it. The only other place I’ve seen is on the back of the headstock, slightly indented.
It is possible that plate could have been painted over, I know my ’84 got pretty corroded there. I never painted it as to not cover the SN, but the seller might have.
Aside from that, I can’t recall any way to tell if it is a real Fender or not. If the workmanship is crappy, that is a tip off right there it might be a fake.
