Fender Mexican/American Standard Stratocaster or Epiphone Les Paul?

Hello! I want an new guitar for Christmas and I was wondering whether I should get the Mexican made strat or the epiphone les paul standard plus top. I threw in the american strat because i am not too sure if my parents would pay for that. I am pretty much a beginner-intermediate player. I have been playing for more than a year now.

Fenders sound better clean, Epiphone is better for distortion. You could also look into Epiphone SG’s. With some decent pickups, like Seymore Duncan Alnico Pro II’s, the Les Paul could sound like a Gibson. You might like a Slash Epiphone Signature Les Paul Standard.
