fender stratocaster left

How do you take the knobs off a Fender Stratocaster?
i took off this plastic that was struck on the faceplate of the guitar because it was pealing a little on the edges. i managed to get most of it off but there was small amounts left under the volume and tone knobs. how do you get under there and get that remaining plastic???
Actually, the right answer is to use gentle force! Position your fingers on both sides of the knob, as close to the pickguard as possible, and pry upward. The knobs are held to the shaft by a split-knurled pattern, and should slide off with a little pressure. Failing that technique, make a tool. I used an old spatula that already had a tapered edge, and then cut a 3/8-inch wide slot in the middle. After sliding the tool underneath the knob, grab both sides with your fingers and pull upwards. The knob pops right off! If you decide to replace the knobs with a set-screw design, make sure to align the screw with the slot opening; alternatively, put a sliver of wood or plastic in the slot to avoid crushing the knurled shaft. Hope some of this helps. Best regards, Dana
