Is there a good place to buy stratocaster necks?

I own a squier affinity strat, and recently bought a MIM telecaster. I just played the squier again, and am considering that instead of getting another strat, i’d just change the neck, tuners, pickups (and the pickguard, since i want an SSS but have a fat strat) and possibly the bridge: basically leaving the knobs and body. But, i don’t think there’s a good place to buy *FENDER* necks (not squier), and was wondering if anyone knew one? My current squier has one of those retardedly large headstocks and i’m not sure as to the quality of the neck itself. I could upgrade it (giving it the pickups and tuners of an MIA deluxe) for less than the cost of a MIA standard (i think)

Hello! I hate to disillusion you on your upgrade plans, but you are going to spend more money on quality replacement parts than if you buy a new MIM Fender. A genuine Fender neck (see http://edenhaus.com/Necks.htm for examples) fully finished and ready to install will run you more than the initial cost of your Squire! Then adding in the bridge, pickups, pickguard, and machine tuners, you will be spending well over $600. Even when you get all of the new parts installed, it will still not say Fender on the headstock! The only fully legal way to get a genuine Fender decal applied is by an authorized Fender Authorized Repair Station. Now add another $75 to the price tag! When I had the headstock on my American Standard painted, a new decal (in my case, with the correct serial number) had to be specially ordered from Fender (they required pictures and sales documentation of the instrument), and applied by the service technician. Although this may seem ridiculous (and it is, to a certain extent!), it is part of the trademark laws that Fender must abide by to keep their images (and origin of the guitar) proprietary. Having said all this, you can find sources on-line (eBay, for example) that will sell you reproduction decals of varying quality, but be aware that this practice is both illegal and unregulated. Sorry for the dismal financial projection for your project, but you will be much better off selling your Squire, and using the proceeds towards the instrument you really want. Best regards, Dana
