Fender Standard Strat / Epiphone Les Paul Special 2 Question?
Sorta got a little question. I’ll have enough money for either of these, and I’m seriously considering both. For every song I love where there’s a Les Paul I can name one with a Strat. TOUGH CHOICES! I hear the Strat is thinner (though the Epi LP Special 2 is much thinner and lighter that a real LP).
So, my question is, which one would be easier to learn on? (I’m a guitar nooby here) I hear the frets on a Strat are bigger, so easier for my big-ish hands, but the LP’s humbuckers allow more room for mistake rather than the cool crisp single-coils.
I don’t want any other brand. If I could afford an American Strat or Gibson I would go buy. But its either of these two to learn on and play loads of songs (Bloc Party, Oasis, Radiohead, Guns ‘n’ Roses – so I’ll be playing a lot of rock, from indie to metal). What do you guitar veterans think?
This is funny because the artists you mentioned there play either Fender or Gibson guitars!
You will know that Epiphone are a brand owned by Gibson, and so they produce the official copies of the Gibson range of guitars. Now you cannot expect to be able to make a judgement on a guitar unless you go and try them out yourself.
It’s a cliche but that’s the way it is.
There are pros and cons to each guitar but some would say the strat is a more versatile guitar capable of playing many genres especially if you were able to purchase one with a humbucker pickup and then the two single coils.
I myself play a Fender U.S Strat and am quite happy with it, however I love the grit and aggression you can create with a Gibson/Epiphone. That being said – My friend recently bought an Epiphone les paul, didn’t like it and returned it for a Mexican strat.
If you have a guitar teacher it would be valuable to ask them what they think and get them to explain the advantages of both as an experienced person in the area.
Good Luck
