fender standard jazz bass?

i have read some reviews that the fender standard jazz bass is a pretty good bass, just that some parts of it suck. if i were to buy one and replace the bridge, would it sound/feel like a nice american standard ( i know there are alot of differences)
i have played squier basses but really want to graduate to a fender, just not break the bank

They are good. I have two. Spend the $500 on it. I then spent an additional $300 on EMG pickups and a Badass bridge. For $800 you now have a bass that approaches the quality of a $1200 American Jazz bass. The frets may need to be replaced also, but I’ve been lucky with them.
