Squier vs. Fender vs. ESP Basses?
1) What is the difference in sound and quality between Fender and Squier basses. I’m on a tight budget, so I may not be able to buy a fender, but I need that punk/hardcore sound.
2) What would be a better bet, a Squier P-Bass or ESP Viper-104
Squier is by Fender, so it’s owned by Fender. They make Fender style guitars, but use cheaper materials and are built in Korea (usually). Most people would say that they see, feel and hear no difference, but most people would say that Fender makes better quality guitars. Personally, I’d say that there is nothing wrong with a Squier – they play just as good as a real Fender.
ESP basses. They also come in ESP LTD, which are like Fender Squier, ESP is the ‘real thing’, so it’s better quality than an ESP LTD. For a “punk” tone, you’re better off with a P-Bass, Squier or Fender. ESP basses usually have active humbucking pickups, more suitable for metal.
Don’t let the bad reviews of a Squier P-Bass put you off, those people are either Squier haters, or use their basses as a baseball bat.
