fender mexican strat review
The very first guitar I ever owned was a made in Mexico Fender Stratocaster. I decided on this guitar because I idolized many of the guitar heroes that played them as well. Now I regularly own, and play them everyday. I’ll name some of the features of the Stratocaster. features that make this instrument so great and unique:
Single coil pickups: These are not like humbucking pickups. Single coils have a very clean bell-like tone to them, which are great for blues and any other genre of music (besides metal). They also have the ability to produce creamy overdriven tones. Just look at all of the greats that favored these over lifeless sounding humbuckers.
Unique body design: The design of the Stratocaster was said to be before it’s time. It would have looked futuristic to you back when it first came out in the 1950s. It fits you comfortably for great playability. when you see the design, you know it’s a strat, even with all the copy-cats.
Sound options: Strats come with 3 pickups. Along with these pickups, they have a 5-way selector switch which lets you change pickup positions for a variety of different sounds. The 2 and 4 pickup positions (which are in between 2 pickups) give you a nasal sound that is smoothe and bluesy.
Floating Bridge: This unit on stratocasters really do contribute to their unique tone. You can even tell the difference in the sound between a strat with a tremelo unit and a strat with a hardtail bridge. The floating bridge (also known as tremelo unit and vibrato unit) is what makes a Stratocaster a Strat! Hardtails are nice too, but they they lack that true strat vibe.
Changeable necks: Leo Fender made these guitars so that they could be customized pretty easily. They don’t have those glued in necks like Gibson has. If your neck gets broken, wears down, or you just want a different one, you simply un-bolt the neck and replace it.
The features and the comfort of this guitar are what made them so popular today. They sound better with age and they age beautifully. Artists that are known for using Strats throughout their career include – Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck. Rory Gallagher, John Mayer, Buddy Guy, Yngwie Malmsteen and many many others.
