Can someone name the major differences between a Squier by Fender Jazz Bass and a Fender Jazz Bass?

Is there really any big difference besides the pricing?

Quality control. That is, if we put instrument quality as a number from 1 to 10, you can expect the Fender to be between 7 and 9, but you can expect the Squier to be between 4 and 9. This means you can still find a Squier that’s just as good as a Fender, or even better, but you need to be sure to play it personally and check everything out. The only definite differences I can think of are that the Squier will probably have lower-quality pickups and very likely a basswood body. The basswood’s no big deal, I actually use only basswood guitars. It’s a little thicker sounding than the usual alder, a little warmer than ash. The pickups…that’s a quality control thing again, man, it might be important or it might not. Just have to try it out.
