Is an FSR fender better than a normal one?

I want to get a vintage Fender Stratocaster Standard FSR (Factory Special Run), but I’m not sure if Factory Special Run is a good thing? I mean, it sounds cool, like limited edition or something, but I don’t want it if it’s like a cheaper version of a good Strat.

Hello, John! From my perspective, a Fender Special Run guitar is primarily a unique version within a particular product line. This can be a Squier, MIM, MIA, MIK, or MIJ instrument that has been made in limited quantities, sometimes seemingly just to test the marketplace. Often it is just using available parts from different models that are normally not co-existing; other times, it is unique paint or finishing schemes. Although the feature set is usually more robust than the equivalent models in the product line, the overall build and quality level will be essentially the same. What you are buying is a guitar that is different from the norm, and will likely not be produced again. The FSR is not to be confused with the Limited or Special Editions, which are many times overbuilt and overpriced! Best regards, Dana
