How to Connect Guitar Effects & Pedals?

Hi, I have a question about connect effects to a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I have just purchased an Omnisonic Volume Box, which says to plug it into the effect loop. Would I use an instrument cable to plug it in. Wouldn’t that get really expensive if I have to keep purchasing instrument cables? Just to clarify, I wouldn’t plug the guitar into the box, but I would plug it directly into the INPUT on the amp, and place the volume box in the effect loop. Here is the Product..Thanks!
