Guitar between 1500 to 2500 in Australia?
I have accumulated about 2200 bucks and am looking at buying a guitar on the weekend. I currently have a g-400 in cherry which looks terrible but still feels really good and sounds pretty good for the price. I have been playing for about 9 months now and feel i have outgrown it.
I was thinking about the sg standard 2009 in cherry but also really like the feel and sound of some of the fender telecasters. The paul reid smith guitars also feel awesome but they are all on the expensive side for good ones. I have played through most “big name” guitars like Strats and Les pauls, but the Stratocaster feels cheap and the Les paul feels like a block of wood. The guitar shops around Adelaide have pretty much anything I can think of at the shop ready to try out so I would be happy to hear some suggestions.
I play anything from Pantera to the Beatles, to ACDC so take that into consideration.
What do you guys recommend I get?
an sg standard has Ceramic humbuckers thus giving you the heavy crunch of ac-dc (its what angus uses of course!!) he uses the bridge pickup.you also get a bluesy sound from the neck pickup real creamy depending on the amp and\or pedals
and im pretty sure pantera and the beatles uses humbuckers more offen than single coils although im not sure (that’s simply going by what i hear)
try a guitar with a humbucker plus a single coil pickup
that way you get more tones for the money 
most of all love the guitar your buying its not worth the money if you dont like the feel of it
play the guitar without an amp plugged up (so you wont have any misconceptions about how it sounds on your amp)
a gibson sg is your best bet
its not as heavy as its brother (le paul) and its got more of a heavy sounding power than a les paul
les paul (kind of bluesy and rhythmic at the neck. and very distorted and super screechy at the bridge)
SG (creamy,bluesy kind of early rock n roll sound at the neck. and very “punch in the face” hard loud tone, so when you play back in black you can feel the guitar taking control and kicking SOME F***ING!!! A*S!!
