What is the point of Bass pickup covers?
What do they do? like the fender p-bass chrome pickup covers?
The pickup cover on a P-Bass is purely for aesthetic reasons. It’s too far away from the actually pickup to change the overall tone. You’ll have to adjust your picking though, which can be a pain, and then the overall tone will be changed.. It might lessen the sustain a bit, but nothing really serious.
The pickup covers on a humbucker, like on a les paul, actually do affect the tone, and roll a bit of the highs off.
