Curious about Fender Squire Jazz Bass – sunburst finish, no pickguard, Jaco looking?

I’m bummed with Fender. I play some high end basses, but would love to have a Fender Jazz as a fretless. However, they higher end stuff doesn’t look nearly as good as their Squire fretless model I’m seeing all over the place with the sunburst finish, no pick-guard, but with the chrome plate over the electronics.

Kind of Jaco looking….looks great (why can’t Fender do their American stuff using that finish?) I am looking for a Jazz with that finish. Would more than likely rip the electronics out day one and put in better stuff.

My question…. has anybody played on that particular model? Does it come close to American Fender stuff? Does it upgrade nicely? Can it be made into a pro bass?

All help appreciated. Thanks.

Fender Jazz fretless is a very good bass. We have one at the studio. Its an old model but hey. The sound is awesomely smooth, punchy etc.. We also have a Guild fretless bass whcih personally, beats the Fender jazz bass by a mile. If you ever have a chance to try a Guild fretless bass. Do so. You will never put it down again.

As for upgrading, that is not an issue. You can put Seymour Duncan bass pickup which really improve the sound and the response time.
