My Fender Amplifier is doing weird stuff?

Okay well, my Fender amp has been doing weird stuff okay so when ever I’m playing it’s like the volume just shuts off (and i didn’t hit the volume knob while playing) and then it just comes back on and keeps on doing that. I just got it in march and it has been used before. So should I take it back and have it replaced or what? And I don’t think it’s my guitar (Squier Strat.) because it plays fine at my lessons.

So what do you think i should do?

Hello! It is certainly possible that the amplifier is malfunctioning, but first check the guitar cable. With it connected to the amplifier, wiggle both ends to see if you can duplicate the problem. If it occurs at the guitar end, the jack may need attention. See http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An.0VE1fyVoPxzed53g8jljty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090404144515AAusEy8 for more details. If the problem is on the amplifier end, the input jack may need replaced. Should you have more than one input, check to see if the intermittency occurs using a different input path. Replacing input jacks is relatively simple and inexpensive, whether done by you or at a repair shop. If this is a tube amplifier, lightly tap each tube to see if any makes noise. When the unit goes dead, you may also see a tube dim then glow when re-activated. Replace any that are suspicious. Lacking any resolution with these checks, the amplifier will need to be repaired by a technician; however, diagnosing and subsequently replacing electronic components tends to be expensive, and the value of the amplifier may not justify the repair cost. Let me know if I can help further. Best regards, Dana
