Why is it that you see so few guitarists playing Fender Telecasters?

To my ear, the Fender Telecaster, played clean with no manufactured effects aside from a little reverb, opened up all the way, can stand up against any guitar out there. Look at what Roy Buchanan could do with one. And they charge an arm and a leg for the American Standard, so some people must agree, so why is it you just don’t see the top players playing them. It’s all Strats and Les Pauls and what have you…

Teles are used a lot more in the studio, than most people realize
Even though he is known most for his LP’s
Jimmy Page did the 1st 4 Led Zep albums with a Tele

Prince uses one too, though some of his are heavily modified
the Byrds
James Burton
Keith Richards, the Stones
Joe Strummer, Clash
Clapton used one when he was in the Yardbirds and Blind Faith
Dylan used one in ’66
Steve Cropper, Booker T & MG’s
George Harrison
Andy Summers, Police
Jamie Cook The Arctic Monkeys
Jeff Beck has used one
Albert Lee (Mr Telecaster)
Simon Baddeley, The Strokes
Robert Smith, The Cure
A LOT of Blues players use them too
Jonny Lang
Muddy Waters
Mike Bloomfield
Albert Collins (the Master of the Telecaster)

and this isn’t touching all the country pickers
Like Brad Paisley etc
