fender 12 string

are fender acoustic guitars good?
someone is selling a 1973 fender 12 string acoustic guitar and i want to know if they are good guitars.
They are not good at all. While Fender electrics deservedly enjoy a solid reputation their acoustics are mediocre at best. I have no idea where they were made back in the 70′s but I’m guessing it was Korea. Now they’re all made in China.
The problem with Asian made guitars in general is that their quality varies quite a bit from sample to sample of the same brand and model. So while there’s a (small) chance you’ll get a great one, there’s a much larger chance it’ll be no better than so-so.
I would not buy this guitar unless you’ve had the opportunity to play it first and to inspect it thoroughly. The best 12 string guitars are currently being made by Taylor and Breedlove although admittedly they’re going to cost a heck of a lot more than a used 70′s Fender.
Good luck.
