Tom DeLonge Guitar Question?
I really like Tom Delonge’s guitar. The Gibson ES 333.
Here is a picture if you want to see it:

I am thinking of saving up for it. My question is, should I spend $500 on the Epiphone signature one? Or save up about $3,000 and get the actual Gibson one that he has?
There’s a difference in electronics, quality of wood and craftsmanship when comparing any Gibson to it’s Epi counterpart. BUT, the differences aren’t a $2500 difference when you compare the $500 to $3000 Sigs.
You’ll be happy with the Epiphone. If you’re not sure, try both out and see if you can tell the difference. If anything, you can change out the pickups of the Epi and get a great tone.
PLUS, if your Gibson gets stolen (like a lot of them do) OR you drop it and the headstock breaks (like a lot of them do), then you’re not gonna be as pissed off over $500, compared to $3000.
I’ve been playing 15 years, and can’t find a need to buy a $3000 guitar, unless I came into some money. If I did get one, and I was asking people if it was worth it between a $500 and $3000, then I either don’t know the differences between the two, or $3000 is A LOT of money to me. If you’re serious about a $3000 guitar, and you think that’s a lot of cash, then don’t buy it… if you join a band, and start doing show, you’re going to get it scratched and damaged…. then you’ll be pretty damn upset.
My official recommendation. Try out the Epi. If you like it, and it plays well, then buy it. You can always upgrade the pickups and electronics later.
