epiphone gibson bass guitar

How do I get a good Rock sound out of my guitar?
Mkay, I just got a Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Series II and an Epiphone Studio 105 amp to go with it. I cant figure out though, how i get a good rock sound out of it.
The amp has a Boost Button, a Gain, Treble, Middle and Bass dial. And my guitar has 2 dials. One is volume, but i don’t know what the other one is.
Please, someone, can you tell me how to adjust them to get a nice rock sound, and what to mess with on my guitar as well.
Any extra help/tips would be very appreciated.
Your guitar probably has a volume control and a tone control. Tone control changes the sound from thin and bright, to thicker and deeper in tone. I’m not sure exactly what you you mean by a rock sound, but if you want it to sound more crunchy or jagged, then you’ll want a distortion pedal. A digital delay will allow you to add re-verb, which gives sort of a fuller, concert hall, partial echo type of effect. You can buy pedals or go for a multi effects unit, that has other effects, like chorus, compression, phaser. These ar usually less noisy than buying your effects one by one, with pedals, but they also cost a lot more. I would say for a beginner who wants a so called rock sound, you probably want distortion and delay. I think those are two biggies. But as getoffthebandwagon999 mentioned, you can play with your amp settings somewhat, but, you’ll be limited in what this will accomplish.
Here are what some effects sound like. Click on tab that says “audio” to hear each effect. I chose Boss, because they are a very popular maker of effects, but there are others out there.

Digital Delay (Note: the first sound on this demo has distorion added to it. This pedal does not produce distortion! The 2nd part of the demo is the delay with no added effects)
