What kind of amber electric guitar does Paul Simon play in concert?

I have been seeing Paul Simon in concert pictures with a stripped-down butterscotch/amber electric guitar. I was curious if it was a custom made item, who made it, and how Paul Simon uses it. The guitar appears to be Fender Stratocaster with no pickguard, a single pickup, and one conrol.

That is EXACTLY what it is. Good eye. I found it odd that he would remove the pickguard but apparently he wanted a more “rustic, stripped down” look or something.
