What kind of guitar should I buy?

I currently own a cheap cort immitation of a stratocaster. I want to buy a new guitar for better quality. I usually play rock, but nothing too heavy. It’s usually things like Eric Clapton, Santana, The Eagles, AC/DC, etc.
I do play solos and riffs so I want good tone especially for things like slide, bend, hammer on, pull off, etc.
I want a clear sound too for the the types of songs I play but I need good distortion for some harder rock songs.
I don’t mind buying a used guitar as long as it’s in good condition (if you know any guitars that usually stay in good condition for a while). I’d like to avoid spending over $400 with $500 being the absolute maximum. I’ve looked at things like Ibanez, Fender and Gibson but I`m not sure which one’s better or if their are other better options.
Thanks.

A new Fender Standard Stratocaster is right in your price range. The Strat is one of the most copied and widely used guitars. There are probably other fine choices but I don’t think you could go wrong with a new Strat.
