Does an electric-accoustic guitar need a special amp? (Or can you use the same one as an electric?)?

I’ve been playing with a cheaper fender Squire, and an sp-10 amp, but now need an accoustic for school classes. At first i thought an accoustic would do, but figured with an electric-accoustic i could get more use out of it with my amp at home. Would the same amp i use for my electric guitar work for the electric accoustic?

Yes, you can use the same amp. It’s true they make “acoustic” amps but a regular guitar amp will work fine. Your argument for an acoustic-electric has some merit, but let me play devil’s advocate and argue the other side.
Your 10 watt amp is really just a practice amp so I’m not sure why you think you want to plug an acoustic into it. Around the house, the acoustic will be loud enough and sound better un-amplified.

When you buy an acoustic-electric, part of the cost is wrapped up in the electronics. In other words, you can get a better guitar for your money if you skip the electronics. If you find yourself in band situations where you are needing an amplified acoustic, you can always add a pickup. The only advantage the acoustic-electrics have is that there are usually volume and tone controls built in…which you don’t get when you add a pickup.

It’s not a big deal whichever you choose…I just thought you should hear your options.
