Should I go for an amp cab or new Fender Bass?

went to Guitar Center to look at an Acoustic amp stack that includes: Acoustic B200H 200W Bass Head and B115 250W 1×15 Cab and a B410 400W 4×10 Bass Cabinet for $699.99. I was looking at getting this for gigs (the only amp i have now is a 15w practice amp) Then i saw a Fender Precision Bass (Fiesta Red with a silver pickguard) for $629.99. I know the bass wasn’t american because of the price but i looked amazing and played great. The bass i have now is a Epiphone Thunderbird IV but i’ve been looking to upgrade to a fender p bass for quite some time. I’m short on cash and i can get one of these for christmas. So what do i do: Get the full cabinet and just play with my thunderbird or go for the fender and not worry about a big amp (a PA system could take over for power)?

I’d suggest you go for the amp. With a 4×10″ and 1×15″ cabinet, your sound will be very well-rounded, projecting all frequencies well. The Thunderbird is really not an ideal bass, but it’s usually best to spend more on your amp than on your bass – a crappy amp will make any bass sound crappy, but even a low-end bass can sound good on a good amp.

Also, plugging into the PA system usually is a good idea – if your amp has a POST-EQ DI output, then the signal that’s transmitted to the PA system will already have the tonal adjustments from your bass and amplifier.
