2008 gibson les paul custom

Gibson Les Paul Custom – USED?
I’m looking at an ad where someone is selling a 1997 (11 year old) Gibson Les Paul Custom. He says that the guitar is in good shape, aside from a small neck repair where the neck meets the headstock. He is asking for $1450. I understand that new 2008 Gibson LP Customs cost around $3000+.
Has the value dropped that much due to the repair? I know some people have tried to sell Gibson LP Customs for $2000-$2500, but this is the lowest I’ve seen.
I would definately use caution !! You’ll buy the thing and get it and see that is actually an Epiphone…lol..Epiphones do put the “Gibson” name on the truss rod cover.Neck repair would concern me too, this is leading me to belive that it’s a “set neck”design, and not a true “neck through design”..(set necks are usually glued into the joint, where the through neck is one solid chunk right through the body) who did the “small neck repair?”did they hack it?I would definately find this out,if that neck angle is off, good luck with the intonation, action, and fret buzz.big time headaches. But if it is that cheap pro repair may make that axe sweet again!
Maybe on the other hand dude is just hard up for $..use caution, hate to see ya get burned by this. That’s one thing about Gibson USA Customs, they don’t usually depreciate in value..actually quite the opposite, especially Gibson USA Customs, imfamous for gaining value!!
1)maybe the dude just needs $ and you’re onto the steal of the year
2)the alternative, use caution, someone maybe confused about what it actually is,”small neck repair” could be potential problem.(ie..neck angle,intonation,action/fret buzz, twisted ect)
Good luck with this.Is there anyway to hold this guitar and check it out first hand?Hope this helps somehow.
