The company with the name of Charvel Guitar Repair was the first guitar Jackson Randy Rhoads of Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot and fame. Grover Jackson and Wayne Charvel were partners Charvel company to have its name on guitars. On November 10, 1978, Jackson bought his partner and took control of the company.

A couple of years later, In 1980, Grover Jackson and Randy Rhoads got together and started working on the first "Rhoads' guitar. Grover Jackson decided to put his own name on the guitar Randy because he thought it was too shocking for Charvel's regular customers. All guitars were made with the company until that time had the name on the headstock Charvel guitar and his designs were almost identical to the Fender Start.

Speaking of heads, the head of Jackson is very similar to the Gibson Explorer fallen head designed as a derogation of Jackson is pointed at the end of it. Other models of this style Jackson had also pointed the same with the difference that blade tip points instead of decreasing. Jackson guitar is also known for designing shark fin fret of their sausages.

From 1979 all Road to 1986, the factory was located in San Dimas, California before moving to Ontario, California.

In the 80's and early 90's, guitars Jackson was very popular with the Heavy Metal and Thrash music genres. The Jackson guitar design is sleek and stylish and shape of the guitarists of the era perfectly. Artists like Phil Collen and Rick Savage (Def Leppard), Vinnie Vincent (Kiss), Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot) and Robbin Crosby (Ratt), by name a few.

In 2002, Jackson Charvel Guitar Company and was purchased by Fender guitars and moved to a factory in Corona, California. This led some bad feelings for a number of guitarists loyal Jackson and many of the artists promoted their guitars in the 80 and 90 jumped ship and went to support other guitar manufacturers.

Today the Jackson guitar is still very popular, especially in the genre of Heavy Metal. There are still plenty of guitarists talent that performed with Jackson guitars for their high quality and cool design. Some users are more recent Jackson Matt Tuck (Bullet For My Valentine), Frank Aresti (Fates Warning and Dark Day Sunday), Metal Mike Chlasciak (Halford, Sebastian Bach and Painmuseum), Chris Beattie (Hatebreed), John Campbell and Mark Morton (Lamb Of God) Phil Demmel (Machine Head and violence), Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne and Black Label Society), Derrick Green (Sepultura), James Root (Slipknot and Stone Sour) and Serj Tankian (System of a Down).
